Surfers Not Street Children is a project that empowers ex street children as they move towards adulthood. The team of former street children, who are now top surfers, are not only committed to their own continued transformation and journey towards independence but are ambassadors and role models for other kids still on the streets as well as an advocacy voice on the phenomenon of street children.

Surfers Not Street Children visits His Royal Highness Prince Harry

Former street child Ntando Msibi and Surfers Not Street Children founder, Tom Hewitt MBE met with His Royal Highness Prince Harry at Kensington Palace in December 2016. The reason for the visit was to update the Prince on the work of Surfers Not Street Children and also to update on the tour of the UK and Japan that Ntando was embarking on. The Prince had visited Surfers Not Street Children in Durban in December 2015 so it was a great opportunity to share all that has happened in 2016 with his Royal Highness. Ntando also got a tour of the Palace! Stoked!

US Pro Surfer Dane Reynolds surfs the WSL Quiksilver Pro France for Surfers Not Street Children

Surfers Not Street Children is thrilled to announce that the US Pro Surfer Dane Reynolds has decided to surf the WSL Quiksilver Pro France on behalf of Surfers Not Street Children. We are absolutely thrilled at the news which includes donating his winnings from the event. In a post heat interview with WSL (World Surfing League) Dane explained how a friend of his had visited the Surfers Not Street Children Surfhouse and had met the team and been impressed. Dane had also asked some of his South African friends what they thought and had been given the thumbs up! Thanks for this extreme act of kindness, Dane. We really appreciate it and are excitedly following your progress in the event. Our crew of youngsters went crazy with excitement on hearing the news! As of writing, Dane has smashed heat 1 with an impressive win and is waiting for his round 3 match up with Owen Wright.

Sa Longboarding Champs

We are really proud that Sfiso Mhlongo of Surfers Not Street Children, a former street child who is a apprentice joiner now, made the semi finals in the SA Longboarding Champs at Seal Point in the eastern cape. This is pretty impressive, especially as he normally surfs shortboard!  Well done Sfiso!

SA Surfing Legends Charity Gala in Durban

Surfers Not Street Children was really proud to be the beneficiary at the SA Surfing Legends Charity Gala in Durban, South Africa at the Southern Sun, Elangeni Hotel.. It was a fantastic event where South African surfing legend and former World Champion, Shaun Tomson, gave the keynote address. The Surfers Not Street Children crew had a table at the event thanks to KZN Surfing. Massive thanks go out to SA Surfing Legends, Shaun Tomson, KZN Surfing and all the other ‘legends” there on the night. Picture.
